DELTORA QUEST

Deltora Quest - Forests Of Silence is the first book in the series of 8 of the magical world of Deltora. It is written by an Australian author called Emily Rodda. Deltora Quest is set in the medieval times when the Kings and Queens still ruled the land.

Jarred was a good friend of the King and Queen who guarded and once wore the Belt of Deltora. One day the belt was taken by the Shadow Lord and the 7 gems that were embedded on the belt were taken. 7 of the Ak-baba (vulture-like creatures) each took a gem and hid it in a secret place and each place is guarded by a grueling monster set to guard the gem with its life.

16 years later Jarred's son Leif, a 16 year old boy has been chosen by his father to go on a quest to look for the 7 gems of Deltora. The 7 gems are: The diamond, the emerald, the lapis-lazuli, the topaz, the opal, the ruby and the amethyst. The first letter of each gem put together spell the world 'D E L T O R A', thats how Deltora Quest got its name.

Leif wouldn't be going on his quest alone would he? His companions during his quest are: Barda who was once a grey guard that once served the Shadow Lord to cause havock and pain. And jasmine, a forest girl who lived in the Forests of Silence and is about the same age as Leif. She has been living alone in the forests for most of her life because her parents were supposedly 'killed' by grey guards. Her 2 friends that live with her and keep her company are Filli who is a cute ball of fluff and Kree who is a black raven.

When Leif and Barda first come to the Forests of Silence they find Jasmine and the further they venture into the forests, the more dangerous it becomes. When they venture off to a pathway full of strange trees they discover the guardian of the first gem of Deltora a armored and skilled knight who has the first gem embedded into the hilt of his sword. When the companions defeat him (by cutting trees and the debris falling on him) the gem that was embedded in his sword fell in Leif's hands, it was the Topaz symbol of faith and could contact the spirit world. They also found the Lilies of Life, they could heal any wound and heal it in under a minute and the wounded would be back to normal.

Leif, Barda and Jasmine have found the first gem of the Belt of Deltora, only 6 remain. The quest to find the gems of Deltora has only just begun......

I would recommend Deltora Quest to ages 8 and over and is a MUST READ for boys and girls alike.
